Natural processes drew all the marks shown on this print: the movement of Long Island Sound’s salt water and sand, and evaporation.
How did I create this image? A lithography technique called Lo Shu.
I placed a grained aluminum plate at the water’s edge for a few minutes. The salt water and sand moved back and forth over the surface. When the plate was dry, I dripped a low dilution of gum mixed with distilled water on the surface of the plate up to the edges of the salt water area. After the plate dried, I rolled up the surface with ink, etched it and printed it.
